Weigh To Win 2011

This week started the Weigh to Win challenge for this year through my work wellness program.  I’ve put on a little weight over the winter, so it’s time to start kicking butt again.  I’m also starting to see some races pop up on the schedule, so I should be running again soon.  I got an email from the group with Lillie’s Friends and their race is coming up in April, plus the Komen Run for the Cure is in May and the Greek Festival 5K should be coming up in May as well.   The North Carolina Marathon has moved from March to November this year, which is OK since I would not have even been close to ready for a Half anyway.

Starting weight for this year’s Weigh To Win (closes eyes) – 300 lbs.

Ouch.. back up to 300.   That’s ok, now I know how to get rid of it.  We are getting my wife a bike with some of our tax refund money so we should be spending a lot more time out and about at parks and whatnot.  I can walk/run while she rides until we get me a bike too.  Also, to get out and be more active I have joined my companies spring softball team.  It’s a non-competitive co-ed league, but it’s better than sitting on my butt on Thursday nights.  Should be fun too!     I am a recent graduate in Food Science (NC State, 2009) and I work for a major food manufacturing company. I love food, but I can no longer eat anything that crosses my path. About 24 months ago I begin a serious struggle to get my obesity under control and reduce my chances of developing Type II diabetes. Since September of '09 I have lost 50 pounds and I still have a long ways to go. I've started eating better and exercising more, including taking up running.
